PM Modi Leads Key Meeting as 9 Ministries Showcase Work Reports

The recent high-level meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by Narendra Modi marked a detailed review of government performance, long-term governance goals, and emerging global challenges affecting India. The meeting, which lasted around four to four and a half hours, was held shortly after the Prime Minister returned from an extensive five-nation foreign tour. A key highlight of the meeting was the presentation of work “report cards” by nine ministries. These presentations were part of a structured review process in which ministries were asked to classify their reforms into four categories: changes in laws, regulatory reforms, policy adjustments, and improvements in working methods. They were also required to explain how these changes have directly impacted citizens, focusing on transparency and measurable outcomes. The Commerce Ministry was the first to present its progress, followed by other major ministries including Petroleum, Home Affairs, Finance, and External Affairs. The discussions reflected a broad evaluation of governance performance and administrative efficiency across sectors. Ministers of Cabinet rank, Ministers of State with independent charge, and other junior ministers participated in the meeting, making it a comprehensive review of the government’s functioning. In his address, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of aligning government work with India’s long-term development vision for 2047, when the country aims to become a fully developed nation. He instructed ministers to consistently plan and implement policies keeping this milestone in mind. A strong focus was placed on improving “Ease of Living” for citizens, ensuring that governance reforms translate into simpler, faster, and more accessible public services. PM Modi also highlighted the need to accelerate reforms that improve “Ease of Doing Business,” encouraging ministries to continue identifying outdated regulations and administrative hurdles that could be streamlined. The Prime Minister underlined that governance should remain citizen-centric, with tangible improvements in daily life as the core objective of policy changes. Another important aspect of the meeting was the discussion on the ongoing West Asia crisis and its global economic implications. The government reviewed potential disruptions in energy supplies and their impact on India’s economy. The Prime Minister urged ministers to take proactive steps to minimize risks for ordinary citizens, particularly in sensitive sectors such as energy, agriculture, fertilizers, aviation, shipping, and logistics. Overall, the meeting reflected a strategic combination of performance review, reform acceleration, and crisis preparedness.
