KMC Seeks Details of 17 Properties, Sayani Ghosh Issues Strong Clarification
Fresh controversy has erupted in West Bengal politics after the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) issued notices regarding several properties allegedly linked to Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee. Among the listed properties, the name of TMC MP Sayani Ghosh appeared as a joint owner in one flat, triggering political debate and widespread discussion on social media. According to reports, the KMC has sought detailed accounts of 17 properties allegedly connected to Abhishek Banerjee. The civic body reportedly questioned whether certain constructions matched approved building plans and warned that unauthorized structures could face demolition if explanations were not provided within the stipulated time. The issue gained further attention after Sayani Ghosh’s name surfaced in documents related to a property located at 19D Seven Tanks Road in Kolkata. Following the circulation of these claims online, the TMC MP quickly issued a clarification on social media, strongly denying any connection to the property in question. In her statement, Sayani Ghosh said she had seen messages claiming that she jointly owned the property with Abhishek Banerjee. However, she firmly stated that the person named in the documents was not her. Emphasizing her modest background, she said she had never earned large profits from politics and that all her assets were already publicly declared in her election affidavit. The MP also accused certain groups of attempting to defame her without evidence. She warned that legal action would be taken against those spreading what she described as fake news. In a strongly worded message, she declared that she would not be intimidated and referenced the ideals of Rabindranath Tagore’s “Where the mind is without fear,” asserting her determination to stand firm. Meanwhile, the political atmosphere in West Bengal continues to heat up over the property investigation. The KMC notices reportedly concern multiple properties, including locations on Kalighat Road and in the Shantiniketan Building area. Authorities are seeking explanations regarding alleged irregularities in construction and ownership details. Adding to the controversy, senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari recently claimed that as many as 24 properties linked to Abhishek Banerjee are under scrutiny. The allegations have intensified the ongoing political confrontation between the ruling TMC and the opposition BJP in the state. As the dispute grows, all eyes are now on the responses from the involved parties and the next steps from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation regarding the investigation into the disputed properties.
