Giorgia Meloni Welcomes PM Modi With New Selfie, Internet Reacts Fast
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Italy on the final leg of his five-nation tour, where he received a warm welcome from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Soon after PM Modi arrived in Rome, Meloni shared a new selfie with him on social media, which quickly went viral across the internet. Posting the picture on X, Giorgia Meloni wrote, “Welcome to Rome, my friend!” The friendly interaction between the two leaders once again grabbed global attention, as their previous selfies and videos had also become social media sensations during international summits like COP28 in Dubai and the G7 Summit in Italy. PM Modi’s visit to Italy is being seen as highly significant from both diplomatic and strategic perspectives. During the visit, he is expected to hold important discussions with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Talks will focus on strengthening cooperation in trade, defense, technology, clean energy, and global partnerships. Before reaching Rome, PM Modi shared a message on social media saying that India and Italy would work toward deepening bilateral ties. He also highlighted the importance of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) and said both nations would review the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–2029. In addition, the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), underlining India’s commitment to global food security and multilateral cooperation. At the Rome hotel where PM Modi stayed, special cultural performances were organized in his honor. Artists presented traditional music and dance performances reflecting both Indian and Italian cultures, creating a festive atmosphere. According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, this marks the eighth meeting between PM Modi and Giorgia Meloni since 2023, highlighting the growing closeness between the two countries. Italy has now become India’s fourth-largest trading partner in the European Union. Bilateral trade between the two nations reached nearly $16.77 billion in 2025, while Italian investments in India totaled around $3.66 billion. Both countries are now aiming to increase trade to 20 billion euros by 2029. The viral selfie, along with the high-level diplomatic meetings, has made PM Modi’s Italy visit one of the most talked-about international events on social media.
