Abhijeet Dipke Alleges Death Threats, Says Pressured to Join BJP, Accounts Hacked
The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), a satirical digital political movement founded by Abhijeet Dipke, has recently come into the spotlight after its founder claimed he received death threats and faced a coordinated online attack on the party’s social media presence. According to Dipke, he was threatened via WhatsApp by an unknown individual who allegedly pressured him to either shut down the “Cockroach Janata Party” account or join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He further claimed that these threats were part of a larger attempt to suppress the movement’s online presence. Dipke also stated that both the party’s official accounts and his personal social media handles were targeted. After the party’s X (formerly Twitter) account was suspended, the Instagram account was also reportedly hacked, along with his personal Instagram profile. In a public statement shared on social media, Dipke said that the Cockroach Janata Party’s platforms were being systematically attacked. He claimed that the Instagram page had been compromised, the X account was suspended, and even backup accounts were deleted. He emphasized that the organization currently has no access to its official digital platforms and warned followers that any posts made after the incident should not be considered official statements from the party. The Cockroach Janata Party initially gained attention as an internet-based satirical movement. It emerged following controversy linked to alleged remarks by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant during a court hearing, where terms like “parasite” and “cockroach” were reportedly used in reference to individuals accused of entering the legal profession with fraudulent degrees. Although the Chief Justice later clarified that his comments were misrepresented and directed only at fraudulent entrants, the incident sparked widespread online discussion. Taking inspiration from this controversy, the Cockroach Janata Party used the “cockroach” symbol and quickly became a viral sensation. The movement spread widely across social media platforms through memes, satire, and political commentary. It positioned itself as a voice for youth concerns, particularly focusing on issues such as unemployment, exam paper leaks, and systemic challenges in education. Dipke has previously described the initiative as a “voice of the lazy and unemployed,” highlighting its satirical and protest-oriented nature rather than a formal political organization. Despite its satirical origins, the movement rapidly gained a large online following. Reports suggest that within days of its creation, the X account amassed over 1.93 lakh followers, while its Instagram presence reportedly grew to more than 1.4 crore followers, surpassing several mainstream political parties in follower count. Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the initiative, is a 30-year-old political communications strategist from Pune, Maharashtra. He holds a degree in journalism and later completed a postgraduate qualification in public relations from Boston University in the United States. Professionally, he has worked in digital political strategy and communications. The recent claims of hacking, threats, and platform suspensions have added a new layer of controversy to the already viral movement, raising concerns about digital security, online political expression, and the growing influence of satirical political campaigns on social media.
