The Chhattisgarh government has assured citizens that there is no shortage of petrol and diesel in the state despite the tense situation in West Asia. According to the Food Department, fuel supplies across the state remain stable, and adequate stock is available at all petrol pumps.
As of May 22, 2026, around 4.35 crore liters of petrol and 8.15 crore liters of diesel are available at 2,516 fuel stations across the state. The government also confirmed that regular fuel supply is continuing without interruption. On May 21 alone, the state received 32.52 lakh liters of petrol and 57.60 lakh liters of diesel.
Fuel is being distributed from oil depots located at Lakholi, Mandir Hasaud, and Gopalpur according to district-wise demand. Officials stated that diesel demand has increased due to ongoing Rabi crop harvesting and preparations for the Kharif season. Keeping this in mind, fuel supply has been increased to avoid any shortage for farmers and transport services.
To prevent hoarding and panic buying, the state government has imposed an immediate ban on the sale of petrol and diesel in drums, bottles, and jerrycans at all fuel stations. The order was issued on May 22. Authorities warned that any violation would be treated as “unauthorized sale” under the Motor Spirit and High-Speed Diesel Order 2005 and action could be taken under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
However, certain essential sectors have been exempted from this restriction. Farmers involved in agricultural activities, government construction projects identified by district collectors, hospitals, and mobile tower services will still be allowed to purchase fuel in containers after proper verification by Sub-Divisional Officers and following safety guidelines.
Food Department Secretary officials recently held a review meeting with oil companies and instructed them to immediately supply fuel to any petrol pumps facing low stock situations. The government has appealed to the public not to believe rumors or engage in panic buying, emphasizing that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability throughout the state.
